MUXR STAGE
By transforming a space into an XR (Extended Reality) Studio, the Miami University Entertainment Design team was able to create a showcase to the directors of Miami University themselves to understand the new emerging tech medium.
Virtual Film Stage
By connecting the technologies operating the camera and the virtual camera in the render engine, the background seen by the camera seems to fully immersed in the virtual visuals. Yet, you can stand amidst it, bringing you into the world scene itself!
The new MUXR stage utilizes the same technologies seen amidst many new music videos, movies, and television series such as, The Mandolorian and Billie Eilish “You Should See Me In a Crown.” Where you wouldn’t believe that the actors are standing on a blank stage. The multipurpose usage of the stage allows for an entire scene to be swapped in an instant.
The Transforming Scene
The MUXR project had 6 project leads to build upon an aspect of utilization of the XR technology. These projects and their goals were all organized by our collaborating team, however I was further implemented into bringing about the direction of the visual style of each project and to make distinct visual stages as much as possible. Yet, as some projects needed more work and more dedicated team members, for the sake of the team, I was able to handle tackling and developing the Vault Door project.
The goal of the Vault Door project I envisioned was to create a direct showcase of a singular scene file being individually and selectively altered to change. Each changing piece of the scene was able to be confined to easy array of buttons for a scene controller to operate.
The scene would be able to be fully realized through the camera’s technology of having a front-plate and back-plate to fully immerse the composition. This would overlay the footage in front of and behind the physical XR Stage with the rest of the virtual world’s scene, replacing the rest of the stage entirely with the virtual space.
